Rapid Mobile (Pty) Ltd. (RapidM) supplies world-class, cutting edge modem technology, embedded modules and ancillary products in the field of HF and V/UHF radio data communications.  Our global client base includes original equipment manufacturers and system integrators.

RapidM’s offering includes MIL-STD-188-110B and MIL-STD-188-110C HF / VHF high-speed and wideband modems, 2G and STANAG 4538 3G ALE controllers, STANAG 5066 ARQ protocols, chat and HF email data application software and digital voice encryption solutions.

We also provide associated services to assist our customers in integrating our technology, modules or products into their offerings.

Rapid Mobile (Pty) Ltd. was founded in 2001 and is based in Pretoria, South Africa.

RapidM has expertise in embedding modem, ALE and ARQ software functionality into existing hardware to extend the life of hardware platforms. This capability includes development of baseband and SDR hardware platforms, physical layer modem designs, customised ARQ systems, network layers, standardised security layers and message handling systems.

RapidM has a large pool of specialists skilled in the area of low-power, high performance data communications hardware, platform and software development. RapidM has a considerable R&D capacity to develop high-speed, wideband and BLOS communications solutions. This capability includes development of baseband and SDR hardware platforms, physical layer modem designs, customised ARQ systems, network layers, standardised security layers and message handling systems. We have a reputation in the industry for dependability and quality in this regard.

RapidM also, on request, develops external units (typically in 19-inch rackmount format) that provide data communication functions required by a system integrator for a particular project.

  • RC66 PC application software conforming to STANAG 5066 for email and chat over HF and V/UHF radio links using STANAG 4539 / MIL-STD-188-110 HF data modems,
  • Embeddable STANAG 5066 ARQ stack and client software components,
  • STANAG 5066 ARQ stack 19-inch rack-mount hardware units,
  • HF and V/UHF Data Modems conforming to MIL-STD-188-110A, MIL-STD-188-110B, MIL-STD-188-110C (wideband HF), STANAG 5069, 4285, 5065, 4529, 4415 and 4539,
  • Automatic Link Establishment (ALE) functions for 2G ALE conforming to MIL-STD-188-141A, MIL-STD-188-141B and MIL-STD-188-141C, and
  • Automatic Link Establishment (ALE) functions for 3G ALE conforming to STANAG 4538 FLSU and 3G Packet Data Modems conforming to STANAG 4538 xDL.

Proprietary Products

RapidM offers the following proprietary products incorporating MIL-STD and STANAG (NATO) standards and specifications:

  • RT MessagePoint PC application software for email and chat over HF and V/UHF radio links using STANAG 4538 HDL, LDL and RDL packet data modems,
  • RT CommandPoint PC, laptop and tablet applications for BLOS position tracking, situational awareness and blue force tracking over HF and V/UHF radio links,
  • RT family of Secure Digital Voice encryptors encompassing low rate (300, 600, 1200, 2400 bps) TWELP and MELPe vocoders and AES-256 encryption, suitable for HF (BLOS) and V/UHF radio links,
  • RA family of Secure Digital Voice encryptors encompassing medium rate (700, 1200, 2400 bps) TWELP vocoders and AES encryption, suitable for governmental radio users, and
  • RW family of Radio Remote sets incorporating field-wire modem technology to separate operators from the radio site by up to 5km.

  • STANAG 5066 ARQ stack for narrowband and wideband HF radio links, and associated IP, ACP-127, e-mail and all mandatory STANAG 5066 clients,
  • Digital voice encryption encompassing low rate TWELP and MELPe vocoders and AES-256 suitable for HF (BLOS) and V/UHF radio links, and
  • Embedded hardware modules for HF transceivers, providing narrowband HF modems, wideband HF modems, ALE and digital voice.

A history of RapidM

RapidM was established in July 2001 to focus solely on the development of core HF radio modems, 2G ALE (Automatic Link Establishment), 3G ALE and HF e-mail software products and services. Since its inception, RapidM has built up significant technical competency in the wireless modem field, especially with regard to conformance with the applicable standards STANAG 4539, STANAG 4285, MIL-STD-188-110B, MIL-STD-188-110A, STANAG 5066, MIL-STD-188-141B, MIL-STD-188-141A
RapidM is also active in the area of 3G ALE and STANAG 4538. Our development team consists of 27 highly skilled Electronic Engineers and Computer Scientists. RapidM has developed cutting edge embedded modem hardware and software for use in standalone or embedded scenarios. The team is committed to continuous improvement of the quality and performance of our products to most importantly, provide priority support to our key clients.

Our Track Record

RapidM has a proven and well established track record, initially in the development of core HF radio modems, 2G ALE and HF e-mail software products and services. RapidM subsequently also focused on the area of STANAG 4538 ARCS including 3G ALE. Since its inception, RapidM has built up significant technical competency in the wireless modem field, especially with regard to conformance with the applicable standards STANAG 4538, STANAG 4539, STANAG 4285, MIL-STD-188-110B, MIL-STD-188-110A, STANAG 5066, MIL-STD-188-141B, MIL-STD-188-141A. We continue to focus on the development of HF / VHF / UHF technologies including secure voice solutions and radio networking.
